a road trip in Maracaibo

Bruno Latour & Emilie Hermant, Paris ville invisible, 1998

Last year, Alejandro Elias Garcia Marta (architect - urbanist) and I wandered, by car, in Maracaibo (Zulia, Venezuela) in order to explore the city and grasp it in a different way than our casual everyday life (Alejandro as an inhabitant and I as a visitor).
We started our journey in the morning of the 28th of February 2009 ,close to the Cemetery of Corazon de Jesus, and stopped in the afternoon around the same place. As we were by car, we travelled around the city through main roads (metropolitan grid), but we managed to unfold the grid by turning in more local neighbourhoods. Finally, we discovered hidden places sitting next to rich and global spaces, which were, most of the time, poor neighbourhoods.
The images that follows are a selection of the photographies taken on the trip. The intention behind this diorama is simple: it is just a way to browse Maracaibo from our particular point of view.
